Escape is Anna Rone’s only option. Never again will she be trapped in a loveless marriage. A new life in America means safety—and discovering the truth behind her beloved brother’s death. But when she is nearly captured and forced to return to England, her vow to never marry for anything but love is forgotten when she must marry for protection. Perhaps the handsome man she accepts is truly as caring as he seems. If he is not, her future in America is darker than ever before.Captain Henry Donaldson aided the colonists too many times. And now, the British army intends to make him pay with his life. Without his friends in Sandwich, he would be a dead man. He’s already changed his name, and when the kind, courageous woman he rescued offers to become his bride, he accepts despite the risks. His past taught him that women are not to be trusted and that love can cut deeper than the sword. Only time will reveal if this choice will bring the greatest pain he’s ever known.

I have just discovered Amber Lynn Perry and read the third book in her Daughters of His Kingdom series. She has quickly risen to the stature of an author I will follow regularly. She is fairly new to the literary world, having published her first book (as far as I know) in 2014. Incidentally, while the three books Ms. Perry has published so far are in a series, she has written the series with the intention that they do not have to be read in order. But for one so young and fresh in the arena of publishing Ms. Perry shows a gift for creating characters you care about, and maturity of style and expression in telling her story.Firstly, the story itself is interesting and inspiring. It shows the results of a thoroughly researched grasp of the time of the American Revolution, mannerism of speech and civilities of polite society in the period, and especially the devotion the patriots felt for the cause of liberty.
I will not synopsize the story in this review as that is available in other places, but the essence of the story in my view is the degree to which secrets deeply guarded in the presence of burgeoning love produce unrest and anguish for those who hide them. As Ms. Perry’s story bears out, the truth is a force of nature and eventually percolates to the top and becomes known--not only that the truth existed, but that it was deliberately concealed. And a parallel theme is that of forgiveness--pure, sweet, and healing--once the truth becomes known.
I’m no great fan of romance novels per se, but I appreciate a well-told story that includes a romantic theme, provided it isn’t too rushed in the telling or based too heavily on physical attraction. Ms. Perry “found the crease” by developing the romantic theme patiently and basing it entirely on the virtues of the characters. And the tender love story of Anna’s parents--so beautifully conceived and told, its loveliness preserved in the ring!
It’s a wonderful story and will stick with me for a long time.

So Rare a Gift Daughters of His Kingdom Volume 3 Amber Lynn Perry 9780997895209 Books Reviews
Widowed Anna doesn't want to be forced to marry again without love. So she flees her father & comes to America to start a new life. She also wants to find out the real truth about her brother's death. Henry is on the run (read book 2). He saves her from abduction & takes her to his friends home to hide, where he also plans to start a new life in hiding. To successfully hide, his friends think he should marry. She offers herself. It won't be for love, but this marriage will at least be her choice. Loved watching their love grow & finding out why liberty & the cause for freedom is so important. Biblically based, striving for God's will in their lives & clean. I hope this series will continue throughout the Revolutionary War!
One of my favorite book tropes is a marriage of convenience, especially when there is a spark of attraction there. Add to that, a hint of danger and the story is very intriguing.
Anna finds herself in an impossible situation and decides to accept the marriage proposal from a kind stranger. Henry has just assumed a new identity for safety purposes, but that doesn't affect who he really is on the inside. I love the bravery shown by each character and the way they gradually come to fan the flames of their mutual attraction. The romance is sweet and tender, yet has a few sparks that at times made me swoon. And I love to swoon! I found myself almost wishing to have been placed in a situation such as this, but I don't think I could handle the peril.
This author truly has a talent for telling a tale, while engaging the reader. I honestly haven't read a lot of books set in this time period and felt that I learned some history along with being entertained and I really enjoyed every page.
I'm reading these books out of order, but it doesn't really matter--they can stand alone. The integrity of the characters, as well as the way they handle the precarious situations that they find themselves in makes it worth the time invested in reading this series.
Content mild+ religious elements; mild+ romance.
*I received a copy from the author, which did not affect my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Facing a second loveless marriage arranged by her father, Anna Rone steals away to the colonies, even though she knows they are on the brink of waging war against England. She was almost captured by the man her father sent, but she’s saved by a handsome stranger. When it becomes apparent he needs a wife, she volunteers. Never has any man, except her brother, been this kind and gentle with her.
Henry Donaldson has deserted from the British army to join the patriot cause. With misgivings from his past, he marries Anna as his friends suggest. But as he gradually learns facts about who she is, he realizes how much his deceptions to remain hidden might hurt her.
I became totally engaged in this story and read it all in less than a day. Although the first two in the series were good, this one was much better. There were even fewer grammatical errors, or else I got so involved in the story I didn’t see them.
